8'6" x 12'1" excellent and authentic hand-knotted vintage rug (very early 1900s rare LiIihan). Made of fine very silky soft yet durable kurk sheep lamb wool and natural vegetable dyes with amazing hue variation unmatched by modern techniques. No stains, holes, animal or smoke.
Millions of hand tied knots in this piece. This is the biggest version of this design and weaver origin that I have ever seen intact; The condition is the best I have ever seen at 99.9% A+ condition, with only smallest sign of wear (Picture 6). Pile is plush throughout and approximately half inch. About 250 knots per square inch over two foundation layers and double tied knots.
Background is antiqued reds made from pomegranate and madder root. Accents include light blue from lilac and indigo sources, brown from bark and nut shell, wheat gold beige ocher from larkspur and weld. Natural organic dye sources oxidize over the century giving lighter and d arker shades of colors, an effect called'abrash' by curators and collectors of textiles. Old world dye techniques unmatched even today.
